The Opportunity:
We have a new path to Urban Farming
The commercial CEA industry's market correction, driven by unsustainable economics,
has created a clear opening for a more resilient, community-first model.
"Growth-at-all-costs" models burned through capitol before achieving local, profitable unit economics.
Premature Scaling
Commercial failures prove that reliance on grid power without a focus on extreme
efficiency is a fatal flaw.
Energy Inefficiency
Over-engineered, proprietary systems increased cost and created operational risks that
led to collapse.
Tech Complexity
The Sunroot Network Blueprint
A resilient, community-powered model for building food sovereignty, climate resilience, and
economic justice In the Seattle region.
Our Solution:
A Resilient Three-Part Ecosystem
Canopy Commons
The Ecosystem Enabler.
Secures funding, builds partnerships, supports training programs to enable community-owned farming.
Sunroot Network
The Infrastructure Engine.
For-profit. Manages farm deployment and investor relations. A temporary vehicle.
Solar Sprout Farms
The Heart of the Network.
Co-op. The permanent, democratic owner of all assets.
The system is built for speed. The Non-profit (Canopy Commons) works with other non-profit partners to provide grants and training for new hydroponic farmers.
The For-profit (Sunroot Network) partners with local solar and retrofit companies to acquire and refurbish vertical farms. To eliminate the primary barrier to entry for new growers, our model offers a turnkey vertical farm financed with with loan payments deferred until after their first successful harvest. Before any deployment, we verify market demand and secure local distribution to ensure every farm succeeds from day one. Each new farm is added to the Co-op (Solar Sprout Farms), a cooperative rooted in shared ownership and long-term community control. After seven years, Sunroot Network completes its mission and transfers full control to the cooperative.
From Failure to Framework
What the industry got wrong became our blueprint for getting it right.
Demand Before Deployment
We only launch farms where need is proven—garden by garden, container by container.
Built-In Energy Resilience
Each unit includes solar and battery systems to cut costs and boost uptime.
Keep It Simple, Keep It Working
Standard parts. Systems anyone can fix and afford.
