Canopy Commons

The Heart of the Sunroot Network.

The Non-profit Arm

Canopy Commons is the nonprofit heart of the Sunroot Network, a mission-driven engine designed to empower the entire ecosystem. It doesn't operate farms; its purpose is to build the conditions that make community-owned farming possible.
Canopy Commons raises philanthropic capital and secures grants, serving as the primary interface for donors, community members, and values-aligned institutions. It works through partnerships with established local nonprofits to fund and support best-in-class hydroponic training programs, amplifying what’s already working in our community rather than duplicating services.
By subsidizing the cost of entry, Canopy Commons lowers financial barriers and creates clear pathways to ownership for new BIPOC farmers joining the Solar Sprout Farms cooperative. To support this work, it develops and shares open-source curricula and educational resources, making knowledge accessible to all. Ultimately, Canopy Commons' sole purpose is to protect and strengthen the mission of food justice, equity, and farmer ownership across the network while cultivating the next generation of growers.
